Steven Ballantyne

Founder of EPM Asia Ltd

Steven initially trained as a Movement Therapist with a specialist interest in Bereavement Counselling. He was a founder member of the East London and City Bereavement Association and ran his own successful private counselling practice in London, UK.

In 2001, Steven chose to make a life-change by entering the world of exploration. He travelled extensively with the principle focus to document and experince tribal Bereavement rituals and male rights of passage in Papua New Guinea, East Timor and across South East Asia.

It was during his first year of exploration, Steve was taken and held captive in the jungles of Papua New Guinea however, following a dramatic air rescue, he chose to return just months later to meet face to face his captures,a meeting which resulted in a life long freindship with many of those who once tried to take his life. Stven has since returned many times to lead successful independent expeditions across Papua New Guinea and has supported a number of Documentary makers to film in its remote and unexplored Jungles.

In 2002, Steven chose to lived for three months with the Tenggerese community at the foot of Mount Bromo in East Java.

Steven led the first phase of the Scientific Explorations Society's expedition to Mongolia in 2006 and a further expedition to the Gobi restricted arae A in 2007. It was after this that he decided it was time to set up his own company hence Expedition & Production Management (EPM Asia) Ltd was created. It's main aim is utilising Steven's expertise in numerous countries across the world and expedition leadership to set up, develop and manage independent expeditions and provide professional support to Documentary, Factual and reality production crew in remote and hostile locations.

Steven lives in Hong Kong and is Fellow of the Royal Geographic Society.
