Films at 59 provided full Post production for Season 9 of River Monsters

20th April 2017

Films at 59 has provided full post-production for Season 9 of River Monsters with Jeremy Wade for Icon Films.

From Greenland to Indonesia, the mid-Atlantic and beyond, Jeremy and his crew attempt to solve mysteries and discover extraordinary fish.

Season 9 of River Monsters has been entirely post-produced in high framerate UHD. Filmlight's Baselight has allowed Films to work very efficiently in the grade with unhindered playback, short caching times and very reasonable final export times.

Colourist Christian Short: - “This series sees Jeremy on the hunt for a variety of man-eaters, in very varied locales. A feature-length episode, exploring the sinking of a passenger vessel in WW2, features some fabulous studio reconstruction with the aid of CGI, which was great fun to grade. The fear and chaos surrounding the sinking of the passenger vessel and the subsequent devouring of the dead by a mystery attacker had to be reproduced, but also suit the period.

Similarly, all the reconstructions featured in every episode of River Monsters need to be differentiated from the live action segments, they must be gritty and above all impart the horror of the attacks on the victims. Live action fishing segments are graded and stylised to suit the locations/heat/weather all to dramatic effect.”

Mixer Paul Donovan added: - “Our main aim was to push the sound – making it as big and bold as is possible. The reconstructions have always been demanding in terms of the sound
design and the team have done some fantastic work at engaging the viewer into whatever particular world is being constructed.  Timo Baker's music had done an amazing job of gluing all of this together and pushing the emotion.”

All new and final season of River Monsters will air on Animal Planet in the US on Sunday evenings from 23rd April.
