Award winning maker of television and cinema films, specialising in wildlife, science, history, arts and feature documentaries.

In September, Blakeway opened a new base for its first Bristol-based commission, a 6-part natural history series. The production is run by former NHU Series Producer, Paul Bradshaw, and Exec’ed by Blakeway MD, Lucy van Beek.  Since its founding by Denys Blakeway, over twenty years ago, Blakeway Productions has gained international recognition for the quality of its output, combining vibrant storytelling flair with journalistic integrity and stunning visuals. The company has made numerous award-winning films and radio programmes on wildlife, science and history.  It iswidely acclaimed as one of Britain’s leading independent production companies.  Now, the Bristol move demonstrates the company’s desire to grow its natural history slate in the heart of the world’s centre for wildlife filmmaking.

Meet the team

MD, Lucy van Beek, began her TV career at the NHU, working on blue chip wildlife documentaries such as David Attenborough’s Song Of The Earth. More recently, she has been behind the award-winning specialist factual docs, Britain From Above, The Crusadesand Aliens: The Definitive Guide. She masterminded the returnable hit, The Wonderful World Of Puppies, filmed in its entirety by natural history camera talent, ‘Tom & Jerry’ style, from the perspective of young pups.  The team making the series have been predominantly living in Bristol but working in London.  “The decision to open a base in Bristol was driven by the fact the talent largely live here.  It’s perverse to be dragging them up to London.  We can benefit from the talent that Bristol has, and, in return, I hope that Blakeway can offer something from its rich TV culture to enhance Bristol’s natural history output.” SP, Paul Bradshaw, said “It’s exciting to be back in Bristol, helping a great company like Blakeway, to build new business here.” Watch this space.
