The Hunt composer Steven Price wins prestigious IFMCA Award

The International film Music Critics Association (IFMCA) has just announced its winners. John Williams wins three awards for Star Wars. The prolific Michael Giaccino wins Composer of the Year for 'Inside Out'  'Jupiter Ascending' 'Tomorrowland' and 'Jurrassic World' .


And we're proud to say that, standing shoulder to shoulder with some of the greatest film composers and hottest Hollywood films of 2015, is Steven Price, who has just picked up the award for Best Original Film Score for a Documentary for 'The Hunt' !

U.N. agency bans lithium-ion batteries on passenger aircraft

The U.N. aviation agency on Monday prohibited shipments of lithium-ion batteries as cargo on passenger aircraft, following concerns by pilots and plane makers that they are a fire risk. Lithium batteries are used extensively by wildlife film crews and our members should be made aware of these latest developments.




Lithium metal batteries, which are used in watches, have already been banned on passenger planes globally. Lithium metal batteries, used in watches, are not rechargable while lithium-ion batteries, used in cell phones and laptops, can be recharged.

Smithsonian and Blue Ant Media launch SVOD Love Nature

Blue Ant Media and Smithsonian Networks’ joint venture, Blue Skye Entertainment, has launched its direct-to-consumer Love Nature 4K SVOD service in 32 countries.

The launch of the joint venture was announced late last year. Blue Skye Entertainment, led by Jo Parkinson, is focused on developing and distributing a library of 4K natural history and wildlife content.

Elephant Film Festival Finalists Announced !

The Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival and CITES teamed up in organizing an International Elephant Film Festival to raise global awareness of the various challenges facing the African and Asian elephants, as a highlight of UN World Wildlife Day on March 3 in New York.

Hosted by the Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival and CITES (the Secretariat of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna ) the International Elephant Film Festival will be held next week in New York . This Festival is a direct result of the 2015 Jackson Hole Elephant Conservation Summit and Jackson Film Festival last year.  



The event is attracting some of the biggest names in the world of Elephant conservation and filmmaking and the Festival have had 250 films submitted  Winners will be celebrated at a high-level event at the United Nations in NYC on W

Sir David Attenborough to present new landmark series

David Attenborough will present Planet Earth II, a new 6 episode series from the BBC’s Natural History Unit, due to screen on BBC One in the UK later this year.


David Attenborough said: “I am very excited to once again be working with the Natural History Unit on its latest landmark series and am especially looking forward to getting out on location in the next month or so.”

Composer William Goodchild nominated at RTS West Award

Congratulations and good luck to NHN member William Goodchild who has been nominted as Best Composer for Return of Africa's Giant Killers; Africa's Lion Kings,  at the Royal Television Society West of England Awards. The Awards Ceremony will be held on Sunday 5th March.


"I scored the film in very close collaboration with Editor Sam Rogers, who was minutely exacting and uncompromising in his briefing." said Will "There is not a cut or twist of story that wasn't considered for music and sound, and many cues were reworked and re-crafted as the edit developed, to work the best they possibly could." 

BBC's Charlotte Moore to unveil new commissioning restructure

BBC controller of TV channels and iPlayer, Charlotte Moore is preparing to address indie uncertainty over the corporation’s radical commissioning restructure, as the race to lead BBC2 begins in earnest.

She will set out her vision on 7 March at an event at the Serpentine Galleries. She is also planning to hold face-to-face conversations with producers about the closure of the BBC1 and BBC2 controller roles.

Most indie bosses are upbeat about Moore’s new remit and record, but there are grumbles that the changes have led to a slowdown in commissioning since January.

Backshall to present for ITV

Bafta award-winning TV naturalist Steve Backshall is to present his first wildlife documentary for ITV.

Backshall has traditionally done the majority of his work for the BBC, fronting hit children’s format Deadly 60 and BBC1 shows including Big Blue Live and Supergiant Animals.
