Sky snaps up TVF doc

Sky 1 has snapped up Sir David Attenborough-narrated blue-chip documentary Wild City: Singapore. The pay-TV broadcaster closed a deal with TVF International for the 3 x 60-minute series, which was produced by Beach House Productions. The film was also acquired by France and Germany’s Arte, Australia’s SBS and Servus TV in Austria. Separately, Arte acquired BBC documentary Nature’s Greatest Survivor.

Evolutions has moved to acquire Big Bang Post Production.

The purchase of the Bristol-based post house was completed on 16 March via an administrator.

Evolutions, which is one of the UK’s largest independent full service post production groups, will take on Big Bang’s picture editing and finishing equipment and infrastructure, its ongoing work, and all 14 of its full time staff.

It has also taken on the leases for two of the four buildings that were occupied by the post house, taking Evolutions to a total of four facilities in the city.

 

Fox will be launching the second season of NHNZ’s ocean wildlife series Our Big Blue Backyard alongside the second season of Wild 24, and a brand new series Extreme Animal Babies at MIPTV 2016 in April.

Silverback Films 'The Hunt ' gets nominations and awards !

Silverback Film's has been nominated for two BAFTA Craft Award for its BBC 1 series 'The Hunt' . In addition they have also just been nominated for a BAFTA for Best Specialist Factual Series !

The series has nominations in the cinematography and music catagories. The series was shot by 5 key cameramen including NHN member Sophie Darlington and was composed by award winning composer Steven Price

Big Wave Productions stick up for Britain's Whales and Sharks

Two years in the making, 'Britain’s Whales' and 'Britain’s Sharks' air on ITV this Friday at 8pm and 9pm. The shows features extraordinary numbers of blue sharks and reveals how important UK waters are for visiting blues. 

The two part series, made by Big Wave Productions and headed up by executive producer Sarah Cunliffe, highlights the wealth of species living off Britain's coasts.  

Plimsoll Productions is to make a major international formats push after acquiring a stake in former DRG executive Andrea Jackson’s distribution firm Magnify Media.

The production company behind Davina McCall: Life At The Extreme took a “substantial minority” stake in the fledgling UK distributor earlier this week.

Evolutions acquires Bristol's Big Bang post

Evolutions has increased its presence in Bristol by buying the trade and key assets of Big Bang Post Production, securing 14 jobs in the process.

The deal involves Big Bang’s picture editing and finishing equipment and infrastructure, its on-going projects and all of its full-time staff become part of Evolutions Bristol.

At the same time Evolutions has taken on leases for two of the four buildings in St Paul’s Road in Bristol that were occupied by Big Bang.

Nat Geo commissions UK indies

 Blast! Films and Icon are among the British indies to have scored major commissions with US network Nat Geo.

At the 21st Century Fox broadcaster’s annual Upfronts event in New York it revealed it had ordered Icon Films’ Savage Kingdom and Blast!’s Project Puppy for Nat Geo Wild.

The orders show that despite its move away from an international commissioning strategy, UK indies continue to have the opportunity win business with the broadcaster.

Arri release accessories for Alexa Mini

Arri has released two new accessories for its Alexa Mini camera: a broadcast plate and a low bracket for shoulder operation.

Both were presented as early production models at the BSC Expo in London and the Micro Salon in Paris, where they were “enthusiastically received”, Arri said.

The Broadcast Plate for Alexa Mini (pictured) is an adjustable base plate designed for documentary-style filming.

Plimsoll win major natural history commission

Plimsoll Productions, the indie set up by former RDF boss Grant Mansfield, has won a major commission to produce 50 hours of wildlife and natural history content from Zambia.

 

Canadian broadcaster Blue Ant Media and US cable broadcaster Smithsonian Networks are to air the blue-chip programming across 32 countries via a subscription VoD service operated by the two companies. Love Naturecosts £3.99 per month and is available in territories including the UK, Australia, Mexico and Germany.
