They've been keeping it close to their chest ....but finally the news is out ! 

 Here's the much anticipated list of nominees for Wildscreen 2016 !  Check out who's on the 'A list'  ( and remember, our very own talented bunch of NHN Members have links direct to their profiles - Just so you can send them your own messages of congratulations, or sign them up for your next project! )   

 


The shortlist below names productions from 10 countries, each of them gaining their place after a sifting of nearly 900 entries by a judging panel made up of leading international producers and broadcasters, conservation organisations, and top craft professionals. 

Wildscreen Panda Awards 2016: Steve Backshall and Liz Bonin to co host

Wildscreen starts on 13 October ! The presitgious festival have just announced that Steve Backshall and Liz Bonnin will be the co-hosts of the 2016 Wildscreen Panda Awards ceremony.
 

Steve and Liz, two of the industry's most adventurous and passionate presenters, will they reveal the leaders of the pack in 2016. 

Who were our "Take 5" at NHN's latest event

NHN’s first ever “ TAKE 5” event got off to a rocking start last week at our regular networking morning. 5 intrepid fresh- faced freelancers; Ben Morris-French, Ella Morgan, Jacky Poon, Tania Esteban and James Bayliss-Smith, took 1 minute to tell us about themselves and then fielded some Q&A’s.  We even had a mystery guest ! This was a fantastic chance for us to hear from some of our ‘new kids on the block’ !

Newcomer Tania Esteban – told us of her recent short film working with The Born Free Foundation and Virginia McKenna – and her particular passion for big cats.

How Will Brexit Affect Us?

The British television industry is set for huge changes after the country voted to leave the European Union. Below is an article taken from Broadcast, but NHN also canvassed the opinions of some of the movers and shakers in our industry to get their take on how natural history production might be affected by Brexit.

Michael Ryan, chairman of the Independent Film and Television Alliance, said that the decision was a “major blow” to the UK television and film industry.

Sia and The Hunt share the stage at Series Fest

You know natural history rocks when it shares the stage with one of the biggest pop stars in the world  ! 

 

The first night of the television and content festival SeriesFest not only featured a special performance by Grammy and Golden Globe Nominee Sia, but also the North American premiere of BBC America’s new natural history series The Hunt, narrated by Sir David Attenborough.

Wendy Darke launches new company True To Nature !

23 June 2016

Former BBC Natural History Unit (NHU) boss Wendy Darke has set up her own production company, with one eye on the growth of multiplatform natural history content.

Based in Bristol, True to Nature will aim to make innovative natural history content for global broadcasters and online platforms, with Darke highlighting virtual reality, 360-degree video and live event TV as particular interests.

Linear TV will remain at “the heart and soul” of the indie, which will be targeting a range of broadcasters, including Nat Geo, ITV, Channel 5, Channel 4 and the BBC, as well as a number of SVoD services such as Netflix and Amazon.

Chris Packham to front new Arts Doc with an Animal twist

Wildlife expert Chris Packham, musician Nitin Sawhney and Instagram artist Kaws are fronting the latest commissions to emerge from Sky Arts’ £1m Amplify initiative.

The pay-TV channel has ordered two projects from the scheme, which launched in November 2014 and was designed to cultivate partnerships between indies and arts organisations.
