Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific is gearing up for the premiere of the 10-part blue chip natural history series Frontier Borneo.
Produced by Singapore-based Beach House Pictures and Kyanite TV, the series explores the rich biodiversity of the world’s third largest island while tracing a cast of characters attempting to protect and preserve the region.
Narrated by Luke Evans, the 10 x 30-minute docuseries utilized the latest in filmmaking technology—from aerial photography to underwater cameras—to capture never-before-seen images of Borneo, revealing the island’s landscape and the reality of frontier living.

As one of the world experts in giant screen documentary filmmaking, we were thrilled that Phil Streather, CEO of Principal Large Format, was able to join us at our February NHN event.
Phil gave NHN members an informative and practical insight into the approach required in the production, acquisition and post production of giant screen films.
Although making films for the giant screen has always been regarded as very different to making shows for TV, it seems that with the evolution of cameras and post-production technology, the worlds of giant screen and television film making are converging.

Children’s television channel ZooMoo expands its presence in Australia with its launch on IPTV service Fetch TV.
ZooMoo is ‘all animals, all the time’ and offerings include audience favourites such as animated series Dinosaur Train , as well as ZooMoo’s original programming which combines spectacular wildlife footage with a range of charismatic puppets, and animations, to create a unique viewing and learning experience for viewers aged 3 to 7 years.
The channel is complemented by a revolutionary second screen app that synchs to ZooMoo’s television programming and opens a world of interactive activities, where your tablet becomes an extension of the television screen, enhancing the viewing experience.

The Royal Television Society West of England has announced the shortlist of nominations for its annual awards, in association with Evolutions Bristol, in the fields of on-screen talent, craft, digital creativity, natural history, drama, regional television news and across a range of factual programming. Congratulations to the many NHN Members who are amongst the natural history nominees - with the BBC NHU bagging a total of 19 nominations!
Amongst the BBC Studios Natural History Unit 19 nominations, the most notable shows include landmark series Planet Earth 11, New Zealand: Earth’s Mythical Islands and Tribes:Predators and Me.

Principal Large Format CEO, Phil Streather, (producer of Giant Screen - IMAX - classic Bugs! 3D and Stereo Supervisor of Jackson Hole winner Tiny Giants 3D) will be sharing his Giant Screen secrets at February’s networking event on Thursday 23rd February.

Phil is a board member of the Giant Screen Cinema Association, a full voting member of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) and regularly chairs/produces/participates in panels on Giant Screen and 3D.

BBC Worldwide is to launch a series of Planet Earth II ‘shows’ on Snapchat ahead of the programme’s North American premiere.
The messaging platform has tied with the broadcaster to host exclusive footage from the series ahead of its debut on 18 February on BBC America, AMC and Sundance TV in the US, and on BBC Earth in Canada.

Planet Earth II’s footage of newly-hatched marine iguanas escaping racer snakes was voted the Timeline TV Moment of the Year by guests at the Broadcast Awards 2017.
The moment, which appeared on BBC1 in November, was watched by an audience of 12.2m. The sequence was shot by NHN member Richard Wollocombe
BBC3’s Fleabag came in second place - the moment Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s character surprises her boyfriend in the shower with a kitchen knife. Pete drumming along to Teenage Kicks on ITV’s Cold Feet came third in a shortlist of 10.
