Gay Dogs and other animals.

Channel 4 has commissioned Arrow Pictures to make a one-off documentary examining the gay behaviour of animals.

The hour-long documentary, My Gay Dog and Other Animals (w/t), aims to challenge pre-conceptions about animals and procreation with the help of experts specialising in evolutionary anthropology, sexuality, sex-differences and gender-differences.

Apple Orders Natural-History Dinosaur Series From BBC Studios

Apple has greenlit “Prehistoric Planet,” a natural-history series that will recreate the last days of the dinosaurs. Jon Favreau and “Planet Earth II” producer Mike Gunton are teaming on the series for Apple’s soon-to-launch streaming service. It will be produced by BBC Studios’ highly-regarded Natural History Unit.

The show will use CGI to take viewers back in time, experiencing the wonders of planet Earth 66 million years ago. Double Academy Award winner Andrew R. Jones (“Avatar”) is also on the production team, as is producer Tim Walker (“Marooned with Ed Stafford”).

Plimsoll go Live in Alaska with National Geographic

National Geographic has ordered a live natural history series exploring the wilds of Alaska from the UK’s Plimsoll Productions.

Plimsoll Productions will be speaking at NHN Networking event in June 

Filmed with more than 25 cameras and 180 crew, Alaska Live follows the wildlife characters of the sparsely populated US state and the scientists on the hunt to understand more about the bears, wolves, whales and more that live there.

Queens Rule! Wildstar to make female focused series for National Geographic

The Bristol-based production company are producing a six-part series, 'Queens', dubbed “the first-ever natural history docuseries where female animals reign supreme” commissioned by National Geographic Channel.

Wildstar Films are new Members of NHN  - details up soon ! 

Matriarchal animal societies including elephants, ants and orcas are the focus on-screen. Meanwhile off-screen, a host of female talent including cinematographer Sophie Darlington are working on the production of the series.

Unfortunately Channel 4, who were going to present this month ( Thursday 16th) have sent their apologies. Due to some reorganisation at the Channel, they have decided to delay their presentation to NHN until they have clarified their natural history commissioning strategy - this should be in the next couple of months.
