Tech Sessions - New Tools for Underwater Exploration & Seafloor Visualisation
Evan Kovacs and William Lange, from the Advanced Imaging & Visualization Laboratory, spoke to a large audience about their developments in underwater exploration and technology. Having created Woods Hole Productions as a company that can not only liaise with various production companies, but create content themselves, the team aim to bridge the gap between scientists and filmmakers. Working around the world, the team’s speciality is modifying camera systems, and they have recently developed two ROV systems, one of which is used for cinematography.
Their Advanced Penetration ROV allows the team to send cameras into shipwrecks inaccessible to humans, and a clever spooling cable provides power to the ROV,
